Custom recognition guide

Your qualification recognition roadmap

A practical staged roadmap for recognition of a foreign qualification and employment planning in Germany.

Your qualification recognition roadmap

1. Name the destination

Record the exact German occupation, intended tasks, city or federal state, and whether you plan employment or self-employment. Similar English job titles can lead to different German reference occupations.

2. Check regulation and authority

Use an official source to establish whether professional access or title use is regulated. Locate the competent authority for the profession and place of work. Save its current checklist and contact details with the date consulted.

3. Inventory evidence

Create a table for diploma, transcript, curriculum detail, practical placements, licence, employment certificates, identity documents and name-change evidence. Mark which exist, which need retrieval, and which may require translation or certification.

4. Confirm document specifications

Ask before spending: accepted file format, certified-copy rules, translator requirements, application method and fee. For a missing record, obtain a written statement from the institution and ask about possible alternatives.

5. Submit and track

Keep a complete copy of the application, proof of delivery, payment and all correspondence. Respond to requests by their deadline, label additional documents clearly and avoid sending unrelated material.

6. Connect the result to employment

A full equivalence, partial result or request for a compensatory measure each produces a different next conversation. State the result accurately to employers and distinguish it from residence or work-authorisation questions.
